This Epilepsy Awareness & Administration of Buccal Midazolam Course provides an insight into epilepsy awareness, practical seizure management and the administration of Buccal midazolam.

The course is suitable for anyone who is authorised to administer buccal midazolam as prescribed by a medical practitioner and reflects the persons individual support plan including: staff, family and carers that provide care and support to people who live in residential homes, supported living services, hospitals, community based settings, Educational settings, Day care services and individuals being supported in their own homes.

Course Duration

This Epilepsy Awareness & Administration of Buccal Midazolam training Course is a full day (6hrs)

Certification

Certificate of attendance will be issued to all learners that have demonstrated that learning has taken place.

The group course can be delivered at locations to suit the client with a maximum number of  16 delegates.

Epilepsy Awareness & Administration of Buccal Midazolam Course outcome:
  • Understand what epilepsy is, its causes and treatment
  • Understand the causes of epilepsy and how it is diagnosed
  • Describe types of seizures and seizure classification
  • Identify triggers to seizures
  • Respond and manage seizures appropriate to the seizure type and its affect (first aid)
  • Understand how epilepsy is managed through medication and side effects
  • Recognise an emergency situation (status epilepticus) and act appropriately
  • Understand SUDEP
  • Understand the importance of care planning and accurate recording, identify risks and develop strategies to ensure a safe environment
  • Understand the theory and practice of administering buccal midazolam
  • Demonstrate competency through simulation of the safe administration of Buccal Midazolam
  • Reflect and evaluate current ways of working
