Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards


This Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards course is intended to support learners to become familiar with the requirements and gain an understanding on the mental capacity act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. It provides a platform for knowledge and has been developed for learners that have not previously attended a mental capacity act and Deprivation of Liberty course.
This course is aimed at Front line staff, managers and team leaders that provide care and support to people who live in residential homes, supported living services, hospitals, community based settings, Educational settings, Day care services and individuals supported in their own homes.
Course Duration
This Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards training Course is a full day (6hrs)
Certification
Certificate of attendance will be issued to all learners that have demonstrated that learning has taken place.

The group course can be delivered at locations to suit the client with a maximum number of 16 delegates.

- Describe The 5 core principles and how they apply to every day practice
- Understand the importance and key considerations in supporting and involving people make informed choices and decisions
- Understand the legal responsibilities under the Mental capacity act and implications of best practice when making decisions for someone in their best interest
- Understand the role of IMCA, Court of protection, public guardian and Lasting power of attorney.
- Understand the importance of accurate record keeping
- Recognise the relationship between the Mental capacity act, Deprivation of liberty and a person’s human rights
- Understand what constitutes a DOLS
- Explain the acid test
- Describe the DOLS assessment process
- Explain how a request for authorisation can be made
- Awareness of proposed changes to the DOLS process.
- Reflect and evaluate current ways of working
